St. Peregrine was born in 1260 at Forli, Italy, where he enjoyed an affluent life. After his conversion, he gave his life to God, eventually joining the Servite Order. He dedicated his life to caring for the sick, poor and marginalized. At age 60, he was diagnosed with a severe cancer of the leg.
The night before his leg was to be amputated, Peregrine dragged himself before the crucifix and begged the crucified Lord to heal him. Falling into a deep, trance-like sleep, Peregrine saw Jesus lean down from the Cross to touch his leg. He awoke the following morning – completely healed! Saint Peregrine is invoked for healing of many deadly diseases, especially cancer.
