Saint Gerard, Patron Saint of Expectant Mothers

St. Gerard Majella enjoyed many mystical experiences and worked many miracles. It is claimed that when Gerard was only 4 years old, a statue of Our Lady and the Infant Jesus came to life and Jesus played with him. From this miraculous encounter, Gerard developed a love for all mothers and children, and God worked many wonders through him.

On one occasion, an expectant mother, fearing the loss of her baby, asked Gerard to pray for her. In those times, relatively few pregnancies resulted in live births. Gerard prayed, the mother had a healthy baby, and God received the glory!

Since then, many have asked Saint Gerard’s intercession for conception, and for a safe and healthy pregnancy for both baby and mother. Today Saint Gerard is also called upon to help foster respect for the sanctity of all human life.
